My focus has been on working with flowers in recent years but it’s been feeling like time to revisit my paints and palette. Still life in Violet is the result of one of my first attempts to do just that.
Painting has always been about oil paints for me but for now I’ve made the switch to gouache and watercolor. At first the fact that water-based paints behave so differently from oil paints seemed like a hurdle. When I persisted though, I found a world of form and color that I haven’t explored yet and I loved giving up a little control to the paints. It changed the way I look at my subject ( most often flowers) and the way I approach my process.
