Designs for Interiors Part 1: Ara Pacis

Feb 29, 2016 | Artwork, Design, Italy

I was recently commissioned to create fourteen original drawings for a few apartments in the historical center of Rome that has been working on redesigning. I’d heard about these beautiful properties a few times from Arlene herself so I was thrilled when she asked me if I’d be interested in making some new pieces especially for them. She asked for something simple and graphic, as well as something that might reference Rome without being too obvious ( i.e. no colosseums allowed, to which I happily obliged). I ended up creating three small series of drawings which I’ll share with you here, one at a time.

The first series I’d like to show you is inspired by one of my most favorite places in the city, the Ara Pacis. I love the way the ancient alter relates to the modern, airy space that houses it. Upon entering, it always feels like a welcome slice of quiet and light that only Rome can offer.

Prints of these drawings are now available in my shop if you’d like a little piece of the Ara Pacis for yourself.
