Dutch Flowers

Sep 13, 2017 | Flowers, Inspiration, Travels

I verily happily found myself putting together a bouquet for a dear friend in Amsterdam recently. Choosing flowers for an arrangement is like picking a palette and brushes for a painting; the elements and instruments used to create a whole. On this particular day, I was inspired by still lifes of flowers by the Dutch and Flemish masters, so I combined a wide variety of colors and textures.

The last image is a photo sent to me by the friend I gave the flowers to a few days after the fact, so that I could see how they were doing. I was really glad she documented this particular arrangement and that it became part of our on-going floral correspondence. Due to our geographical distance, we’ve been sending each other flowers electronically for years.
